IPTC is a wonderful bit of data that is input by the creator of an image. It can include copyright information, a description of the photo and more.

Time: 2 minutes

A digital photo in JPG, TIFF or camera raw format
A computer with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements installed

Open a photo in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Click on File and in the drop down that appears, click on File Info…. This will bring up a new window.

Unless you are working in the news industry, the Description tab will have most of the options you want to fill out. Information entered in the Description tab will cross over to the IPTC tab. If you are filling out this information for your own cataloging, then the document title and description fields should be enough. If you plan in selling your images, then fill out the document title, Author, Description and Keywords

Note: Keywords need to be separated by semi-colons or commas.

You can also include copyright information by using the copyright dropdown. Copyright notice information can input just below the dropdown.
