This is the first step of any knitting project, and I've always found it quite tricky. Here are some simple steps.

Knitting, cast on, yarn

Time: 5 minutes

Materials
Knitting Needles
Yarn

Method
Pull out about 30cm of yarn from your ball.

You'll need to make a slip knot. First, make a loop on your yarn.

Knitting, yarn

Take the tail end of the the yarn through from behind to make the loop of the slip knot.

Slip the needle through the loop, and pull it tight.

Now you're ready to cast on the row. First, make a loop around your thumb.

Then pick up the thumb loop with your needle.

Repeat, until you have the desired number of stitches.
