Skin is the biggest organ we have. It protects our body from bacteria, dirt and other contaminants and thatís why we should learn how to take care of it properly. You should alter your diet if you want healthy skin and use appropriate products. But in order for you to choose a product you first need to figure out what kind of skin you have because every type of skin needs a different approach.
There are four skin types: normal, oily, dry and combination skin. If youíre not sure what your category is just follow the next two steps.
1. Before jumping to conclusions
Wash your face removing makeup and all other products.
Wait for an hour without putting any product on your face.
Take a tissue and dab your face with it, especially on the T-zone.
2. Look at the tissue
Oily skin: If your tissue has grease on it this means you have oily skin. One of its characteristic is that it has large pores, is prone to acne and blackheads and that it shines.
Dry skin: If your skin often feels tight and is flaky you have dry skin. Also, it doesnít tend to break out as often and it has small pores.
Normal skin: If your tissue doesnít show any of the results above then you are lucky enough to have normal skin.
Combination skin: This type is most common. Itís described as having all of the before mentioned traits. Itís usually oily on the forehead and nose (the T-zone), sometimes on the apples of the cheeks, while being dry or normal on the rest of the face.
There additional skin problems you need to think about as well.
Now that youíve determined your skin type you need to know how to take care of it.
Oily skin: Use water based product and wash your face three times a day to keep it clean. Never try to dry it, because if you do the skin will start producing even more oil. Use water base makeup and use mineral powders and oil-absorbing tissues.
Dry skin: You should use as much moisturiser as possible. Also, your makeup collection should have a moisturizing effect as well, so use creamy foundations, blushes and eye shadows while staying away from any powders.
Combination skin: You need to mix the techniques for your different skin types. So if your T-zone is oily apply powder on that area while avoiding putting it on the drier parts of your face. Also, if you have dry skin on other areas apply extra moisturizer on those parts.
Normal skin: Just because you were blessed with this type you should still apply moisturiser daily for healthy looking skin.
