If you hate listening to automated voice services but often need to dial companies that use them, then you will love these two tricks.

iphone phone app

Time: 10 seconds

This method will allow you to contact a specific extension when calling a business.

Open your iPhone phone app and dial the number you wish to contact.

Add a star at the end, then the extension of the person you wish to speak to.

You can now make the call. The star tells you phone to give a pause before dialing the extension.

Sometimes you need to call a company but your not looking to speak to a specific person. You also don’t want to deal with going through the company phone choices just to talk to a person.

Dial the number of the company.

Like the first method, add a star at the end, but instead of an extension number, just add a zero after the star.

Most automated voice services - even those that ask you to speak your requests instead of pushing numbers - will send you to reception or a directory services person when you hit zero.

Note: Some companies require that zero is hit multiple times, so this trick may not always work, but it will work more often than not.

Place the call.
