How to fix a broken gas heater?

My gas heater does not work. The power is on and connected and that works. I've tried flicking the pilot light on to no avail as well.

When I turn the gas on, I can't hear any gas coming through so perhaps that's an issue but I'm not sure what that could mean. Any suggestions?

Hey. With lighting the pilot on your heater it could be hard to hear the gas so don't let that put you off. For starters hold the pilot in fully for 10-15 seconds then use igniter or match to light. If it lights hold for a further 10-15 then release slowly. The piloted should stay alight if it goes out you could possibly need the thermocouple replaced an this should be completed by a licensed plumber. I hope this helps
Thank you Rich. That is very helpful. I will give it a try.

If it doesn't work out I may need to use the services of a quality plumber. I think I may know someone.
You need to take it to a gas plumber as if you have checked the obvious, it needs to go to a specialist.

I have a friend who does this and he says it is sometimes not worth repairing gas heaters.

If you depress the pilot fully an light it with a match or the igniter. It should stay light after you release the piloted button if it does not stay lit you probably need a new thermocouple which can be installed by a plumber and I recommend you get it check the carbon monoxide levels as they are dangerous
