Forget about forgetting things at home when traveling.

The first thing you need to do is to think about where you are going. If you are traveling to some tropical destination, you will need less luggage room, and more swimwear. If you are traveling up north, keep in mind that your jackets and sweaters will take up a lot of space.
Once you have an idea of the basics, start writing them down. According to Randwick accommodation, the most common objects guests will forget back home are phone and laptop chargers, toothbrushes, sunscreen, hairbrushes, and at least one more sweater. Throw moderation out the window, and write down literally everything you could think of. Make lists: Outdoors outfits, indoors outfits (pajamas, slippers...), electronics and accessories, make up and cosmetics, jewelry, documents. You can even prevent this with the help of printable travel check lists.
There are a lot of ways to keep small objects in order when packing. Loop your necklaces through a straw to prevent tangling, and attack your earrings through the holes of a button to keep them together. Roll up your socks and put them in your shoes to save up space.
All in all, if you catalog everything, you are guaranteed to bring everything back home.
