Encourage Birds Into The Garden
Curious birds will soon come flying into the garden with this easy DIY bird feeder. Children will enjoy helping with the process of creating the feeder, and the end result makes a fun gift for grandma, grandpa or perhaps a bird loving friend.
Hanging in the garden
Time: 20 minutes (plus drying time overnight)
Materials
100 grams jelly crystals
1/2 cup warm water
3 cups bird seed
4 jelly molds
60 cms twine
4 straws
Method
Mix the jelly crystals with the warm water, until the granules have dissolved completely.
Ingredients
Add the bird seed - try to find a mix that is appropriate for the native birds in your area.
Bird seed mixture
Mix the bird seed into the jelly and then press an even amount into each of the jelly molds. Add a straw, so that there is a place to thread the twine at the end.
Press into shape
Allow the seed mixture to set overnight, before threading some twine through the hole and hanging it in the garden as a welcome offering to your local birds. Good luck - who knows what surprises nature may send your way.
