The sun is shining, the water is clear and your beach body is finally ready. There’s only one problem and unfortunately it happens to the best of us; your bikini is unwearable! Bikinis are prone to becoming baggy or discoloured after only a few wears. The last thing you want to be worrying about before you head to the beach is hunting down a new bikini that fits, is eye catching and comfortable to boot. With a few simple tricks and a little forethought, you can ensure your bikini is always beach ready and looking just as good as the day you bought it.

Step One

Choose where you sit carefully. The beach or pool isn’t a place known for smooth surfaces, and the rough sand or pebbled concrete can wear away at the delicate material of your bikini. Make sure you always pack a soft beach towel so you don’t have to worry about finding a soft patch of sand when you’d rather be sunbaking.

Step Two
Acting quickly is the most important step in taking care of your bikini. Allowing your bikini to soak in the salt and chlorine of ocean or pool water will increase its chances of wear and tear. Rinsing out your bikini with warm to cold water as soon as you get home will clean the bikini and preserve its colouring. For those who really don’t want to risk damaging their garments, bikini shampoos should be used instead of regular detergent while washing the bikini. Soaking the bikini with this soapy water will wash out the salt and sand and leave the garment looking no worse for wear.

Step Three
Avoid using washing machines or dryers. These machines can shrink the garments while drying them out, and can even increase chances of the colour fading.

Step Four
Bikinis are designed to dry quickly so hang up them to air dry. This will be cheaper, easier and less harmful than using drying machines. Try to find a shaded area such as an open window, a clothesline or shower to dry your bikini. This will help the bikini retain its shape and keep it as good as new.
