Make a Bird Cage Table Centrepiece

Make a Bird Cage Table Centrepiece

Posted 2013-03-31 by Rayna follow
Table centre pieces using bird cages seem to be very popular at the moment. They are perfect for dinner parties and special occasions such as Easter. Perhaps you are being brave and taking charge of your own wedding by creating the décor. Using a bird cage is a very easy yet effective way to make a beautiful table centre piece.

This particular bird cage was purchased from Matalan , the unique hanging design caught my attention. These bird cages are lanterns for tea light candels and are available from most home stores and online; eBay has quite a few at a bargain price. They are often classified under the shabby chic category.

With this particular design the bird cage section can be separated and used on its own

Time: 15 minutes

Materials
Bird cage
Flowers
Table ware

Method
  • Chose your colour scheme so that the flowers match the napkins, candles, tablecloth, and other table decorations.

  • Matching the flowers with wedding favour boxes

  • Cut the flowers so that the stems can be weaved through the gaps in the cage. You may wish to use some string if you have trouble keeping the roses in the desired place.

  • You may find that some of the stems will need to be kept longer than others

  • Open the bird cage and insert your desired decoration item. There is no strict rule that you have to insert a tea light candle, there's plenty of room for creativity.

  • For Easter a chocolate egg or an egg shaped candle can be inserted

Combine with yellow napkins and candles for a spring feel

Perhaps put a flower in there

    Or several flowers

  • You can even use a mirror as a base for the bird cage. A few flower petals or coloured stones can be used as a suggestion.

  • Once you have made the centre piece this can be placed on the table cloth and the rest of the table can be set.

  • The above are just a sample of flower and colour combinations that can be used. It is very easy to personalise this centre piece to reflect the intended occasion.

Tips: Flowers with thin stems may be easier to weave in the cage. Why not try making daisy chains.

Safety tips: As always it's best to follow the safety care instructions provided with the product. Only place the flowers on top of the cage if you aren't planning to light the candle.
