Make SelfRaising Flour
Self-raising flour is a common ingredient in many Australian recipes. It is generally just flour with a raising agent, so that you don't have to add extra baking powder or bicarb soda to the recipe.
There are a couple of reasons why you might want to make your own self-raising flour at home. It's a good substitute if you've run out, but it can also be more reliable than store bought self-raising flour because you're always using the same ratios.
Time: 5 minutes
Materials
Plain flour (all purpose flour)
Baking powder
or
Plain flour
Bicarb soda
Cream of tartar
Method
Measure out your flour.
For every cup of flour add two teaspoons of baking powder.
Mix together and then sift well to make sure the baking powder is well incorporated.
Alternatively, use one teaspoon of cream of tartar and half a teaspoon of bicarb soda instead.
Use your self-raising flour straight away, or package up your pre-weighed mix and use it next time you're baking.
