Survive Mercury Retrograde

Survive Mercury Retrograde

Now is a better time than ever to be kinder to yourself.

Mercury Retrograde is an astrological event where things can go haywire, yet on the other hand this astrological period in life is a great time to rest and clean out the cobwebs. In order to survive a mercury retrograde period, the key is to be prepared. Mercury is a communications sign, and during a retrograde period it goes backwards. In mythological times, mercury was the messenger of the Gods and is a bridge between all levels of our minds. When mercury is not in retrograde, it is (hence) much easier to communicate and articulate our points across.

Time: Mercury Retrograde goes for around three weeks 3-4 times a year. For your reference, the dates for this astrological intervention for 2013 are as follows:

February 23 - March 17
June 26 - July 20
October 21 - November 10

Note: you might feel the effects of Mercury Retrograde a couple of days prior to the above starting dates. Therefore, allow some leeway for yourself.

Mercury Retrograde will be back again in 2014 and beyond.

Materials:

  • Notebook and pen to plan what you're going to do during Mercury Retrograde.
  • Some spare cash to account for any unexpected hiccups.
  • Your watch to keep track of time.

  • Now is also a great time to go through those papers

    Method:

  • Anything with the 'Re' Prefix is great

  • A Mercury Retrograde period is a great time to de-clutter your home and do any task beginning with 're.' The Mercury Retrograde period is a fantastic time to finish off any existing projects. If you're in the middle of renovating your home, now is a good time to ideally finish or if not make progress in this area. A great time to renew, refresh, review and re-commit to something. If you have paperwork and other documents that need to be filed away, the Mercury Retrograde period is a great time to tie up these loose ends. This is where the to do list will come in handy. Just go with the flow.

A great time to rest and recover. Stop and smell the roses.

  • Rest/Relax or even Travel

  • The Mercury Retrograde period is intense and where things can go awry. This is the best time to give yourself some much needed rest. Rejuvenate and unwind. If you wish to travel and go on a holiday somewhere, go for it. However if you are travelling during a Mercury Retrograde period, expect delays and check all of your travel documents carefully as errors can be seen. For example, a friend of mine recently booked an airport transfer service, and they took her to the other end of town. Flights and other transport will be delayed. Be prepared and ensure you have sufficient reading materials and refreshments on hand; just in case you might be stuck at the airport terminal.

  • Expect delays

  • Even if you're not going on holidays during a Mercury Retrograde period, this astrological period is not great for transport (planes, taxis and trains in particular) and for the postal service. This is a time where we need to be patient with others. Even the best communicators may communicate with incomplete sentences, and it will feel like we're all going mad. It is important to be aware of this. Not a great time to use the Internet either. Computer flare ups are highly likely during this time.

  • Big ticket Items and The Fine Print

  • The Mercury Retrograde period is not the ideal time to start a new project, and this includes a new business venture. This astrological period is also not the ideal time to embark on any major life event such as marriage and proposal, starting a new job or adopting a new pet to name. Avoid signing contracts during this period. However, you should not put your life on hold because of some silly astrological event we all experience. If you need to sign a contract such as a tax return or some other papers, ensure that you read the fine print carefully, otherwise things might go awry later. Not a good time to buy any big ticket items such as electrical appliances and iPhones. Again, if you need to buy some items during a Mercury Retrograde period, check the fine print carefully.

If you are feeling a little out of sorts during this time, it is not you. You will be back to normal at the end of the Mercury Retrograde period you happen to find yourself in at any given moment. Definitely light at the end of the tunnel.
