Define your goal
What is it that you specifically want to do achieve? The more defined your goal is, the easier it is to design your step plan and measure your progress towards success.

For example, don't say you “Want to climb a mountain", choose the mountain and when you want to climb it.
Work out what you will need to do to achieve your goal
Break your goal down into the separate parts that you will need to achieve. Don't worry about any specific order, instead simply list the things you will need to do achieve your goal.

If you are going to climb a mountain you will need to do a number of things such as build up fitness, save some money, work on your mountaineering skills, buy equipment and research about the mountain you plan to climb.
Put them into order
The most important element of a step plaln can be left to the last, which is to put everything in order, though don't forget some things can be done in parallel.
Break large steps down into smaller steps
Of course some of the steps might be too complicated, so you might need to create a step plan for any of these steps.
Execute your step plan
Carry out your plan by going through your list of steps. You can see your progress and how close you are to your goal. Having many steps to reach your goal also helps keep you motivated.
